Spring naturally inspires change, so as the days grow warmer and brighter, it’s the perfect time to breathe a new season change into your home.

Kat Moore, Boutique Homes Project Designer, gives us five on-trend ways to refresh and style your space this spring, readying it for a lighter and brighter time of year.

Create a Summer Atmosphere

As we move into the warmer months, swap out heavy layers and moody winter tones for breathable fabrics and soft palettes. Warm whites, sandy neutrals and earthy tones are perfect for bringing a calm yet elevated feel to your space. Coastal-inspired styling remains timeless, with a modern Mediterranean influence also emerging.

“White on white on white doesn’t have to be boring when you play with texture and tone,” says Kat.

Layering materials like textured linen and ceramic accents adds depth while keeping the look fresh. Window treatments are lighter and more versatile. “It could be sheer curtains paired with shutters, a block out roller blind, heavy curtains layered over sheers or sheers with a block out lining, depending on the look you’re trying to create,” Kat explains. This layered approach enhances style while offering flexibility to control light as well as privacy while the season changes.

Bring the Outdoors In

“In a word – biophilia; plants are an obvious way to bring outdoors in.” says Kat. “Open windows, buy some fresh flowers, treat yourself to some room mist or linen spray with your favourite floral scents.”

Biophilic design, focuses on blending nature with interiors, incorporating greenery, natural textures and organic shapes. Introduce natural elements such as artwork inspired by landscapes and botanicals, woven textures in rugs or baskets. “A clever way of bringing outside in is to place a mirror facing a window to reflect the greenery outside and make it feel like part of the space,” she adds.

If you have an outdoor entertaining area, echoing some interior styling choices outside can help create a seamless indoor–outdoor flow.

Enhance Mood with Colour

“Colour psychology is often overlooked and after a cold dark winter and embracing colour is a way to enhance our mood,” Kat notes. This season, soft lilac holds its place, joined by bolder hues like cobalt blue and earthy terracotta for a balance of vibrancy and warmth. In children’s rooms, playful yet soothing palettes – soft buttery yellow with gentle greens or muted peach – create a calming, cheerful space.

Green also remains key, valued for its link to nature and versatility. Deep olive and moss are gaining popularity in low-light areas, adding depth and grounding. Window furnishings are moving beyond neutrals too, with homeowners embracing colour and pattern to make a statement.

For easy updates, accessories like cushions, bedlinen and towels are the quickest way to introduce colour. Warm sandy neutrals remain strong, paired with natural textures like timber and stone for a relaxed, wellness-inspired look – coastal with a modern, earthy edge.

Maximise Light

Light plays a vital role in both mood and spatial perception. Cool or natural light can make a room feel more open, while warm light creates a cosy, intimate atmosphere.

“Have a look at the space and see if there are any areas you can add decorative lighting and if you have larger windows, move furniture to allow maximum light to flow into the space,” Kat recommends.

Embrace the Spring Clean

Spring is the season of fresh starts, and a thoughtful clean-out can do more than just tidy your home – it can reset the way you live in it. Even rearranging furniture can give a room a fresh perspective at no cost.
Consider selling, donating, or upcycling items – these benefit not only your home but also the circular economy and your environmental footprint.
