Perched above the waters of Port Phillip Bay in Queenscliff, Cottage by the Sea has been offering inspiration, fun and care to children in need for well over a century.

Since the late 1800s, the not-for-profit organisation has provided vital respite, safety and opportunity for children experiencing disadvantage, hundreds of young people each year can enjoy experiences that build resilience, connection and hope.

Cottage by the Sea CEO, Adam Wakes, explains the importance of charity and partnership.

“Cottage by the Sea is a charity that has been continuously working to help children experiencing vulnerabilities since the end of the 1800s. Having worked in this space for over 20 years, I recognise how impactful the program is and I’m proud to be part of the journey. At such an important time, when demand for what we do has never been greater, this project allows us to expand our capacity by reaching another 700 children annually.”

Adam continues, “At such an important time, when demand for what we do has never been greater, this project allows us to expand our capacity by reaching another 700 children annually.”

That expansion is possible thanks to a collaboration with Boutique Homes and Warralily Estate, whose continued partnership now involved the build of a second Charity Home to be auctioned in 2026.

Community at the Heart

The project would not be possible without Warralily Estate, whose contribution of land has made the second Charity Home a reality. Their support highlights the importance of community in creating outcomes that last far beyond bricks and mortar.

“The collaboration and partnership with Boutique Homes has been second to none in Cottage by the Sea’s 130+ years of operation,” Adam says.

“At a time when demand for our services is so high, this partnership has allowed us to rebuild the Riptide facility with confidence. Without this support, I’m not sure how we would have been able to deliver such a spectacular facility that will benefit generations of children to come.”

“This incredible new facility, which I believe is the best of its kind in the country, will have an immediate impact on every child walking through its doors — whether with a group or on a short respite holiday with family. It helps us at Cottage, the children, their families and the wider community by increasing our capacity to reach an additional 700 children every single year.”
