A personalised home, fit for a young family and in a community they love – all without the custom builder price tag.
That was the brief for Meg and Will who, together with their two young children, built the Ascot home design with a stunning all white Hamptons façade. The family wanted to build in an area that had a community-feel and was close to beaches and parks, which made the beachside town of Torquay the perfect choice.
‘We wanted to create a home that was more than just four walls. Building your home means it’s something you’ve both worked on together,’ says Meg, who is a design enthusiast with a great eye for interiors.
‘We also love living in the Geelong region. Our kids go to fantastic childcare centres and we’ve got friends around the corner. There are endless possibilities for little kids and we’ve settled in nicely here.’
The Ascot’s two-storey design includes four bedrooms and two bathrooms, along with a powder room and laundry to the lower floor. Two living areas give their growing family plenty of space to play, with the upstairs retreat used for relaxing and watching movies.
The couple took advantage of Boutique Homes’ design flexibility to transform the downstairs media room into an open living space fit for entertaining.
‘My favourite feature of the home is the beautiful six stacker doors in the living space downstairs, which opens into the backyard. It makes the space very bright and open, and we can see the kids playing in the backyard from the kitchen,’ says Will.
‘I also love our big open plan study. We’ve included floor-to-ceiling navy blue paint which is a bold contrast to the rest of the home.’
Creating a Hamptons interior design with a twist
The pair ‘fell in love’ with Boutique Homes’ ever popular Hamptons façade on first sight and it was the clear inspiration for their interiors.
Meg created a fresh take on a classically coastal interior design. Depth and interest begin with the upgraded cladding that wraps around the entire home. Linen curtains, splashes of natural stone and warm timber-look flooring complete the look.
‘We wanted our home to be light-filled, bright and airy, with bright pops of colour threaded through artworks and furniture pieces. It’s a very textural interior and a little bit quirky,’ says Meg.
We didn’t want a cookie cutter look – we wanted it to have a bit of character and to have a homely feel.
What to expect from the build process
It took a quick cruise through the streets of Melbourne for Will and Meg to decide on their builder.
‘We had heard fantastic things about Boutique Homes’ professionalism, and we had seen a lot of fantastic finished products on the street,’ says Will.
‘The upfront pricing was also really big for us – we wanted to be clear on what we were getting ourselves into.’
The build process was positive from start to finish, say the pair. The part they are most grateful for? The helpful and problem-solving approach from every person in the Boutique Homes team, including:
1. Resolve Finance
‘Using a Resolve Broker, Boutique Homes’ in-house finance company, made the whole process easier,’ said Will. ‘When we didn’t know what questions to ask, our mortgage broker knew how to guide us and ensured we felt comfortable making one of our biggest decisions.’
2. New Homes Consultant:
‘I loved working with our New Homes Consultant to get the floorplan just right. I chopped and changed a few times as she guided us through the different design options,’ says Meg. ‘Eventually, we landed on the perfect design and I couldn’t be happier.’
3. Interior Designer:
‘Having a qualified, professional Interior Designer guide us through the whole process was fantastic. They were spot on and nailed the look I was after,’ says Meg.
Once all the bits and pieces are complete, the final clean has been done and there’s that new home smell…I’d never lived in a brand new home before, so it was surreal and really special
For Meg and Will, the results speak for themselves.
‘We would definitely recommend Boutique Homes – in fact, I already have to quite a few people. It’s been a journey, but it’s been a good one,’ says Meg.
