Planning a Knockdown Rebuild?

Understand your gas options now

If you’re considering a Knockdown Rebuild in Victoria and having gas in your new home matters to you, now is the time to act. From 1 January 2027, new residential buildings in Victoria will be required to be built all-electric. Under the rules that apply today, some Knockdown Rebuild projects that do not require a planning permit may still be able to include natural gas. That makes now an important time to understand your block, your project and the options available to you.

What is changing in Victoria?

Victoria has been progressively introducing requirements for new homes to be all-electric. Since 1 January 2024, new dwellings requiring certain planning permits have been prohibited from connecting to reticulated natural gas. From 1 January 2027, the requirements will expand, with all new residential buildings required to be built all-electric.

Thinking about a Knockdown Rebuild?

For many customers, a Knockdown Rebuild is about creating a new home in a location they already know and love. It’s also an opportunity to reconsider how you want to live, from your floorplan and outdoor connections to the appliances and inclusions that matter to you. If gas cooking or other gas appliances are part of the home you have in mind, it’s worth discussing this early in the process. Our New Homes Consultants can help you understand your block, discuss the planning considerations that may apply and explore Boutique Homes designs suited to your land and lifestyle.

The earlier you understand your options, the more confidently you can plan what comes next.

Keep your options open

If you already love where you live, a Knockdown Rebuild will provide the opportunity to stay in the location you know while creating a home designed around the way you want to live now. And if retaining gas is important to you, now is the time to understand whether it may still be an option for your project.
