General door adjustments you can do yourself

If you’re like most people, you probably don’t give much thought to the doors on your cabinets. But, over time with regular use, these doors can start to squeak and creak or require general adjustments.

Fortunately, fixing and adjusting cabinet doors is a relatively simple process. While our team can arrange any required door adjustments as part of your 12 month warranty inspection, we do recommend a carpenter undertake the more detailed adjustments. However, there are some that you can do yourself with just a few basic tools.

Tightening cabinetry doors

Required Tools

  • Phillips head screwdriver

Step one

Your door hinge has two screws – one at the rear and one at the front. The rear screw will help move the door in and out. The front screw, if you rotate it to the right, will move the door to the right and, if you rotate it to the left, will move the door to the left. Simple, right?

Step two

Same can be said for the pot draw. Quite simply, remove the cover from the side and rotate the screw right or left to adjust the margins up or down.

Step three

To finish up, simply replace the cover.

Aligning your stacker aluminium doors

Required Tools

  • Philips head screwdriver.

Step one

With aluminium sliding doors, you can quite often have the door handle end unaligned. Sometimes you can have a tight margin at the bottom and in this case, a large margin at the top.

Step two

To fix this, grab your Philips head screwdriver and head to the bottom of your frame and rotate clockwise to adjust.

Step three

Finally, check that the door operates freely and closes aligned to the frame.

Fixing internal hinge doors that are binding

Required Tools

  • Philips head screwdriver.

Step one

If you have a hinged door that is binding on the latch, the first thing you want to look for is that all the screws within the hinges and the striker plate are secure.

Step two

You can do this by simply using a Phillips head screwdriver. If you find the original screws don’t have enough bite, you can head down to your local hardware store and try longer screws.
